ICRF's Gala 2010 which took place May 17th was an unprecedented success raising over $850,000 towards finding a cure for Cancer. The enthusiastic crowd was entertained by Grammy award winner Josh Stone. The honoree for the evening, Arlene Silver received the ICRF fellowship award. A most worthy recipient of this award Arlene has lead ICRF as executive director for the last 10 years. Her unparalleled leadership, dedication and commitment have brought ICRF amongst the leaders in charitable organizations in the city. Arlene also leads an incredible team of volunteers. She has the ability to motivate, encourage and educate each volunteer of the significance of the work that has to be done. Congratulations Arlene: YOU’RE THE BEST!

ICRF Next Generation presents "16 Candles"

On March 10th 2010, a cast of 60 dancers and models took to the Corona Theatre stage for the 16th annual fashion show, raising over $45,000 for colorectal cancer research. Over 60 dedicated volunteers led by producers Jillian Levi and Marissa Rosen participated in this moving event. The title of this show “16 Candles” represented 1 candle to be lit by someone affected by cancer. This included the 10-committee members, in addition to 6 others who had been affected in our community. The Choreographies for the dances and runway scenes were like no other and everyone danced with the cause at heart. Everybody has been affected by cancer and this year’s fashion show brought out the hope and determination that one day, we will be able to find a cure!

SURI SOIREE
On March 2th, the New Leadership Division of the Israel Cancer Research Fund held its most successful event to date. The event, ?Suri?s Soiree?, was held at the Segal Centre for Performing Arts, where over 400 people gathered to honour the memory of Sarah ?Suri? Gonshor. Guests were treated to an elaborate evening featuring performances by Grammy award winning artist COMMON and Canadian award winning artist Kuba Oms thanks to the efforts of ICRF Vice-President Jeffrey Bernstein. In addition to the entertainment, the evening included a strong educational component, as Dr. Walter Gotlieb addressed the attentive crowd on the advancements in cancer research and the importance of the community?s continued support. A cherished moment of the evening was the launch of the children?s book, From A to Z, which was written by Sarah Gonshor while attending university and 100% of the proceeds from the sale of the book will go directly to cancer research. The event was co-chaired by Sarah?s brothers, Michael & Josh Gonshor and along with their dedicated committee of over 40 young adults raised over $180,000 for cancer research.


SOFTBALL- August 9th, 2009
The second annual Girls Softball All Star game was a big success this year, raising over $20,000. Kudos to this wonderful group of young ladies. This is the only ICRF event that carries no overhead costs. The event took place on August 9th and started with the Mothers softball game followed by the main event: The All Star game featured the top 24 players from the Girls Summer Softball League. Between the fantastic food, great raffle prizes and talent exhibited…the event was a BIG HIT!

SWING FOR A CURE-AUGUST 10th, 2009
Our 8th Annual ICRF Ladies Golf Tournament was held on Monday August 10th, 2009 at Hillsdale Golf & Country Club. With the support of the Executive and Board of ICRF, Hillsdale, our dedicated sponsors and players, the event surpassed all expectations. Despite the early morning mist, the committee joined together and welcomed 236 golfers from 11 various clubs in and around Montreal and Toronto to enjoy 18 holes of golf, breakfast, lunch, 52 raffle prizes and delightful loot bags .The ,most appreciated gift was the bright sunshine that finally appeared. Our hole in one plus two other golf competitions added to the level of excitement on the two distinctly different courses. The final score: $108,000 for Israel Cancer Research Fund.

WOMEN OF ACTION- DECEMBER 6th, 2009
ICRF in association with the Pink Lady Fund of the Jewish General Hospital held its 4th annual Women of Action Brunch on Sunday December 6th at Congregation Shaar Hashomayim. Over 400 men & women were treated to an elaborate brunch followed by a dedication ceremony honoring three women in the Montreal community. Dana Ades-Landy, Senior Vice President of Laurentian Bank, Harriet Muroff, volunteer and leader in the Montreal Jewish Community and Rena Schondorf, an eyewitness to history , all true Women of Action . The main attraction was keynote speaker Leslie Morgan Steiner, New York Times bestselling author of Crazy Love, her memoir surviving domestic violence. Leslie’s extraordinary personal story of courage and determination touched all members of the audience.

GIFT WRAPPING MARATHON DECEMBER 10th-24th, 2009
Our 15th annual Gift Wrapping fundraiser took place at Rockland Shopping Center from December 10th-24th. Every year the amount of volunteers seems to increase, not only because of the cause but also for the good times shared with one another. The combination of 200 men, women and student volunteers over a 15 day span surpassed all expectations. The attractive white and red –striped booth situated outside Fruits & Passion featured the most elegant wrapping paper and ribbons. The 15 day wrapping marathon raised a grand total of $29,000 in support of cancer research.
